Probably the most simple / fun song on the album is of course the most fucked up. I should probably point out the weird title first. The character Pony The Ape is based off a true story of an orangoutang named Pony who was a victim of sexual exploitation for the majority of it's life. The song itself is about sexual exploitation during a relationship as well as my stupid fucking hero complex. The song entails the protagonist saving Pony The Ape from it's life of exploitation, being this great guy and being this light in her life. Due to exploitation Pony the ape feels the need to repay with sex in which the protagonist wants to decline but ends up giving into lust. Questions of morality ensue as the protagonist knows what he did wasn't right but ends up giving in fully "now give me a kiss, if it helps I need one too" the song ends with an apology to pony the ape. "I'm not the man you thought I was, I'm more of an animal than you" and the ending line "I just wanted to be wanted" For sure a songwriting highlight for me, possibly my favorite on the album. I think it's clear who the 'protagonist' refers to.
