I see this as kind of as the thematic centerpiece of the album. The catchiness and pop sensibilities are stripped back and what remains is this quiet guitar the vocals start out much more in your face than before with the opening line "I clip my wings so I'm sure I can't leave" I think the opening verse kind of entail absolute misery. Then the chorus bursts in and this is probably when I should explain that origami is a metaphor for making music, or specifically these set of pop songs. “Hey, I made a swan” through this insufferable emotional torment, I guess I made something fun I say “hey, I made a star” even though all my love is gone I made something quite bizarre." after a quick breakdown where I repeat "Its all I have, Its all i got" it heads into the SECOND chorus where I introduce the idea of the Origami heart which stems from this idea that making music , or making something, then making another thing and another thing affects my relationships with people in similar ways, where I tend to build up a relationship then leave, then build up a relationship, then leave. The second verse is more about that sadness turning to bitterness which leads into the chorus again. this time both choruses are connected without a barrier. The resulting lyrics have me referencing some of my tweets which if you've seen my twitter, are weird. I like to think that everything I do relating to JEXNO means something, and if not I'd like to make it mean something atleast within this project. Truthfully I don't like the yells of "Oh No" maybe a little too cliche and uninteresting for everything up to this point. "Is this just a song or am I reaching out to you" I don't know. I never know. I've never known." is almost like a callback to that personal 'the listener and I' dynamic on Ccccc Me. The song then devolves into an instrumental passage carried by multiple guitar parts. It builds into the final stage of the first half of Origami the repeating phrase "I know I've gone too far, too far, too far, too far a million times". It then get's really quiet and the guitar part after that with the reverb is actually from my voice memos. The remaining lyrics in this second half of Origami are about audience, specifically the idea or , well the fact that no one can really know you from a song even when you write something deeply personal the closest you may get to a real connection is someone finding it relatable which, I'm unsure if that's what I'm looking for. "maybe all that I am is a prop, For you to see yourself and never see me, So all you can see is my shadow."
lyrics
I clip my wings so I’m sure I can’t leave
It’s like all I do is get in my own way sometimes
I’ll drown myself in this pit of despair
Just so when I bob my head up I can look at you and say
“Hey, I made a swan” through this insufferable emotional torment, I guess I made something fun
I say “hey, I made a star” even though all my love is gone I made something quite bizarre.
Its all I have
Its all i got
Its all I have
Its all i got
It's all I have.
And all that i could make you was my origami heart that says hello hello goodbye
its all i have to offer, i have nothing else to hide , I say hello hello goodbye
(oohhh I say hello hello goodbye)
Ahh
i destroy this picture frame, one second I cry, the next it’s an incoming train
I roll around in pity
I have nothing else to gain
your new look is fucking stupid, and i can’t remember your name.
and I say
All that I could give you was my origami heart
“Hey, I made a swan” through this insufferable emotional torment, I guess I made something fun
I say “hey, I made a star” even though all my love is gone I made something quite bizarre.
All that I could give you was my origami heart
I say "Oh, No!"
It's all that I could give you, that is all I have to give
I say "Hell, No!"
Oh, What do I know, the way you touch his f-f-f-f-Face
I want to be an animal, but why did you confuse me?
(Oh, No!)
Is this just a song or am I reaching out to you?
I don't know.
I never know.
I've never known.
(Ooh)
I know I've gone too far, too far, too far, too far a million times
(I clip my wings so I'm sure I can't leave)
I know I've gone too far, too far, too far, too far a million times
(I clip my wings so I'm sure I can't leave)
I know I've gone too far, too far, too far, too far a million times
(I clip my wings so I'm sure I can't leave)
I know I've gone too far, too far, too far, too far a million times
(I clip my wings so I'm sure I can't leave)
I know I've gone too far, too far, too far, too far a million times
All that I want is for you to be like me, I’m so easy to please
All I want is for to be like me, Its so easy
And all that I want is what you want me to be
And all that I got is this paper
All that I am is what you see in me
one day all you will see is a fraud.
And all I need is for you to see nothing in me
maybe all that I am is a prop
For you to see yourself and never see me
So all you can see is my shadow
And all that you see is my shadow
And all that you see Is my shadow
And all that you see is my shadow
And all that you see is my shadow
And all that you see is my
that you see is my
all that you see is my
all that you see is my
all that you see is my
all that you see...
